After being fully committed to ray ban for over 10 years I decided trying something different. I was thinking about oakley but most of the models were too sporty looking so I purchased Mau Jim Banyans.Amazing and superb clarity of lenses and very good fit around the nose.I wish I new this product before.

I own both a pair of (Nonpolarized) Oakley Flak Jackets and a pair of these Banyans, both in black, so I figured I could provide a good comparison between the two.Fit: Both sunglasses fit very comfortably and have flexible frames, however the Flak Jackets are designed for a smaller face and the Banyans for a medium to large face. Both are designed for sports use and are extremely lightweight, but the Flak Jackets are obviously going to be more secure and less likely to fall off if you have an exceptionally small face. Fit is excellent for both pairs but depends on your face structure.Winner: TieDurability: The Oakleys are pretty well built frame wise and shouldn't break anytime soon, but they lose points with the iridium lenses. The iridium coating scratches with even the slightest abrasion, and really needs to be handled carefully. The Maui's are durable all around. The frame is lightweight but well made, and the lenses are made with MauiEvolution material (a glass and polycarbonate hybrid), which is much, much more scratch resistant than the iridium on the Oakley's. You won't have to worry about scratches nearly as much with the Maui Jims.Winner: Maui JimStyle: Both sunglasses look nice. The Maui's, once again, are designed for a larger face, and so they are a somewhat larger pair of sunglasses (but not oversized like women's glasses). The Banyans and Flak Jackets both have a sports look to them, but I prefer the more aggressive styling on the Oakleys. Oakley also has much more prominent branding than Maui Jim if that's important to you.Winner: OakleyLens Clarity: No contest. The Maui Jims are superior in almost every way to the Oakleys in this category. Obviously, because they're polarized, glare is going to be reduced significantly (I have not tried on polarized Flak Jackets so I don't know how they fare in this department). But the Mauis also drastically improve color contrast over the Oakleys and they minimize the annoying backwards reflective glare that is an irritating problem with the Oakleys. Also, because they scratch less easily, you're more likely to maintain clear vision through the lenses. Keep in mind that both of these sunglasses are a HUGE improvement over supermarket sunglasses, but you definitely want to go with Maui Jim if you want the best lense quality for the money.Winner: Maui JimOverall Best Value: At full retail both of these sunglasses are overpriced (but most expensive sunglasses are). I got my Banyans for ~$120 and at that price I think they are a very good value. The lens quality is far superior to Oakley and the Banyans are overall one of the highest quality pairs of sunglasses on the market today. If you can find them for a good price, definitely pick them up, you won't be disappointed.

This is my second pair of these same sunglasses. Unfortunately the first went overboard on a boating outing. Definitely missed them for the few days it took to get the replacements.Bought off Amazon both times as they had the lowest price selections.Great on the water with the polarization, ultra lightweight with really good optics and sun protection. Added bonus--they are pretty cool looking.
